Teacher Preparation Programs in Illinois
Recent changes to the Illinois Code mandate that teacher preparation programs in Illinois begin phasing in a rigorous assessment of teaching skills by July 1, 2013. The edTPA is an assessment designed by Stanford University that will be used as the “evidence-based assessment of teacher effectiveness.” edTPA has been piloted and/or implemented in almost half the states and is meant to serve as a capstone assessment completed during a college student’s student teaching experience before they can earn Licensure. All candidates for Licensure in an Illinois-approved teacher preparation program must take and pass the edTPA beginning September 1, 2015.
